It started with the apple…. Invaders were gathering across the Channel. Thousands of apples were being prepared to flood the British market and decimate local production.
Alerted to the situation a few Kent women began the fight back. Their campaign led them to forge links with consumers and producers, retailers and suppliers and led them to the corridors of Whitehall.

From this threat the Women’s Food and Farming Union was born in 1979. Today WFU continues to maintain those links, repair broken ones and is always seeking to forge new ones. From that apple many fruits have multiplied.

Acting WFU President Helen Bower
My name is Helen Bower, and I am acting President of the Women’s Food and Farming Union.
Please take time to navigate our website in order to learn more of this unique organisation.
Positive, pro-active and determined, WFU members are from all ages and backgrounds, linked by common aims and objectives with the purpose of promoting the Best of British Agriculture. In order to achieve this we have to ensure that our producers are the best and that consumers are aware of this, hence the slogan “Linking Producer and Consumer.” We research our subject; point producers to consumer concerns and through our Education Initiatives explain production methods and techniques.
Formed in 1979, WFU continues to promote, support and present all that is best in British Agriculture.
