This Year WFU has continued to campaign to promote British Produce, to educate and inform the consumer and monitor production methods and scientific development.

Campaigned:
· For a fairer deal for UK Farming,
· Better education in schools on farming and countryside issues.
· An improvement in food and nutrition education in both secondary and primary schools.
· “Honest labelling” as a priority.
· A reduction in “food miles”.
· Promoting demand for British farm produce.
· An increasing supply of local food in shops.
· Education for the young consumer.

Supported:
· The “Why Farming Matters Campaign”.
· The “ Food and Farming Year”.

Thoughts and Actions for the Future:
· To maintain our Educational Programme.
· Build better relationships with key Ministers in the agricultural departments of government bodies.
· Recognise the importance of implementing “The Rural Development Plan”.
· Forge stronger links with affiliated organisations.
· Maintain a sustainable Industry through linking all sectors of the agricultural industry.
· Prioritise Government action to resolve the TB issue.
· Encouraging the consumer to recognise the importance of British agriculture.
· Lobby MEPs for more positive results in Europe.
· Monitor Animal Health and diseases.
· Resist the implemation of “Electronic Identification” for the sheep industry.
· Demand a fairer price of milk for dairy farmers.

Home Grown Cereals Authority.
The HGCA support the WFU with funding for Farming in the Classroom and Breakfast Week.  HGCA and WFU also worked together to produce the DVD of ‘Through the Farm Gate’ which is used in schools and at shows to enhance school visits and public awareness. Also members help on the HGCA stand at the Cereals Event. Their facilities at Pentonville Road have provided venues for our meetings and we will miss their presence in London.   As the structure of the levy boards changes we look forward to working with the new AHDB.

 

 

 

British Cheese Board.
We thank the members of the Board for providing a great variety of cheeses for the promotional work we do.  The WFU branches organise various events around the country when the public are encouraged to try different sorts of cheeses as well as discuss nutritional value, and uses, of cheese.

 

 

Dairy UK
The Dairy Committee of the Women's Food & Farming Union, work very closely with Dairy UK to support and promote the Dairy Industry.
