Not less than 2 portions of fruit and vegetables per day, at least one of which should be salad or vegetables and least one of which should be fruit.
A fruit based desert should be avaialbel at least twice a week in primary schools.
Fish shall be available at least once a week inprimary schools and at least twice a week in secondary schools. Of those portions, oily fish should be available at least once every three weeks.
Red meats should be available at least twice a week in primary schools and at least three times per week in secondary schools.
Starchy food such as bread, pasta, rice, noodles and potatoes should be available every day.
Fresh water should always be freely available and free of charge.
The only drinks which should be available are water, skimmed or semi-skimmed milk, pure fruit juices, yoghurt or milk drinks with less than 5% added sugar, smoothies made from mixing the previous drinks, low calorie hot chocolate, tea and coffee.
A milk or dairy product should be available every day from a list of milk, cheese, yoghurt, fromage frâis and custard (but not butter or cream).
Confectionary and chocolate should not be available at lunch times.
The only savoury snacks available should be unsalted, unsweetened nuts and seeds - crisps should not be available.
Salt should not be available at dinner tables and condiments only available in sachets.
Meals should not contain more than two deep fried items in a week. This includes items which are deep fired in the manufacturing process.
Manufactured meat products should be served only if they meet minimum legal meat content levels, are not economy burgers and do not contain prohibited offal. This includeds brains, lungs, rectum, stomach, feet, oesophagus, spinal chord, testicles, large intestines, small intestines, spleen and udder.
