Wilkinson environment award

This year's Wilkinson Environment Awards for Nottinghamshire are now open for applications. The awards, now in their seventh year, reward the conservation work of farmers in Nottinghamshire and are sponsored by Wilkinson’s, the workshop based home and garden store chain. The closing date for applications is the 4 June 2007. IPPC Workshops for pig and poultry producers9 August 2006

Wednesday, 9 August, 9.30am to 1.30pm or 2pm to 6pm Ancaster Hall, University Park, University of Nottingham, Nottingham, NG7 2RJ

The Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control Regulations apply to pig and poultry units with capacity for: More than 40,000 poultry places (broilers, layers, pullets, turkeys, guinea fowl and ducks); More than 750 sows, or more than 2,000 finishing pigs over 30kg.

You need to apply to the Environment Agency for a PPC permit to continue operating your site. Existing sites need to submit an application between 1 November 2006 and 31 January 2007. However there is significant work involved and producers are encouraged to start their application now. In conjunction with the Environment Agency, NFU have organised two workshops events. The EA will explain the application process and what you need to do to obtain a permit.
