Dengie Hundreds - Mary Hull

Schools day at Writtle College - May 2008

Update February 2008
In September 2007 we attended the Barleylands Show to do a Cheese promotion which was very successful. We were interviewed on BBC Radio Essex.
We also attended the Countryside Live 2-day event at Lee Valley, Walthamstow. The HGCA "Cereal Story" and seed collage was used and children thoroughly enjoyed the event. It was a great opportunity to talk about where their food comes from.
Janet Thorogood talked to local WI on agriculture and work of WFU.
Andrew St Joseph, local campaigner for the upkeep of the sea walls talked to members. This is a major issue in our part of the world as we are threatening with the prospect of the Dengie being allowed to flood in the future with loss of valuable agricultural land.

October 2007 was Food Week in Collingwood School. Members went in to give talks on food production: Sally Kirk on cheese and milk from goats; Jo Partridge on beef and lamb production; Ross and Sam Lonergan on wheat production. A local tractor dealer sent in a tractor and caused great excitement.

In November three members attended the AGM at NABIM and at the local meeting a talk was given by a local bee keeper. The cahhirman also spoke to Ongar Young Farmers about the work of the WFU.

In December, a joint meeting was held with Essex Agricultural Society where the guest speaker was Germaine Greer. Ionwen was a guest and the meeting was chaired by Janet Thorogood.

The AGM was held in January 2008 and a meal was attended by approximately 20 members.
Mary Hull elected chairman - good luck!

Farmhouse Breakfast Week - January 2008
An interview was held on Saints FM
It was also "Bring a parent to Breakfast" at Collingwood School (Assembly and class discussions on the importance of a healthy breakfast); and sausage and bacon rolls at Heybridge Swifts junior football club.
Members served breakfast at Heybridge Swifts Football ground for the youth teams at their training session on Saturday 26th January in morning
